Quick Development Update

Just a quick update from us; we are working on a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff at the moment – not too much to report right now in regards to actual deployments.

Rewards contract:
Internal testing of the rewards contract is ongoing with security audits scheduled to begin next week. The plan is to push major announcements out into the community along with site updates surrounding the claiming of rewards ~24th July. This gives the community a 2 week lead-up into the 1st rewards phase. Everything is on track internally and we are happy with the progress being made with the rewards contract.

Bankroll increase/advertising:
Postponed until after the 1st rewards period. Development wise, the lead up to the 1st rewards period is a crucial time for us and the entire community, so we appreciate your patience with us as we work towards kicking these time-critical goals before we expand any further in these regards.

Behind-the-scenes:
Internally the majority of the front-end has been ported over to Angular 4 thanks to our new front-end developer and new mobile layouts/designs are beginning to take shape thanks to our UI/UX designer – all ongoing and still very much work-in-progress.

After the 1st rewards period our focus returns heavily to optimization of gas costs, bankroll increases, design and advertising. Progress is moving along nicely and we look forward to the coming weeks announcements, site updates and a successful 1st rewards period. Let’s roll!

Development Updates

Hello all!

We have just deployed recent updates to etheroll.com. In this latest release comes the following:

  1. Metamask support (BETA!)
    We are now able to support players who wish to use the Google Chrome Metamask extension (may require clearing your cache). This development update significantly reduces the barrier-to-entry for new players by completely removing the need for our users to install Mist browser and run a full Ethereum node.

    Players can now play instantly after simply installing the Metamask extension. You can find instructions on how to play our game using Metamask under our ‘How to Play‘ tab.

    The Metamask release is still in BETA so if you experience any issues please contact us using the instructions on the support tab and we will be able to assist you. Internal testing has given us good results, however live deployment ‘in-the-wild’ can sometimes be a different story.

  2. We are status.im ready!
    We are proud to announce today that the mobile version of our game has been built! Above are real screenshots of screenplay we have been testing locally inside of status.im. You can now visit etheroll.com in your mobile to see a preview of how our current layout (new designs are WIP – see below) will look in status.im.

    Status.im is currently only available on test-net and won’t be available on main-net until Q1 2018. We are opening up discussions with status.im in order to have our test-net app deployed onto their platform. Once added you will be able to play our test-net game on your mobile with the status.im app, happy days!

    We have been running tests internally (locally) and etheroll works as intended on status.im. The mobile gaming market is YUGE and we are ready for it, today!

    Please note: You will not be able to play etheroll on your mobile with status.im today and the mobile version is how our current site design/layout reacts in mobile. We are working on new design/layouts to focus on the mobile market. However, if status.im was to launch tomorrow, we would essentially be ready today.

On-going Development

Some boring ‘behind-the-scenes’ stuff, but no less important!

  1. Reduced gas costs
    We are now ready to start internal testing of our updated smart-contract on test-net which will significantly reduce gas-costs moving forward. We have been working together with Oraclize in order to get this functionality in place and we are now working on this as a priority for a live release very soon. We expect to see significant savings in gas costs with this new release. Stay tuned for further details as we bring this next release to you.
  2. New Developer!
    We have hired an experienced, focused and well-trusted developer (who is an absolute gun, a real weapon!) with whom we have a long relationship to assist with the re-build of the front end of the site using Angular 4.Currently, the front-end of the site is built using jQuery, which was suitable at the time, but moving forward jQuery is just not going to be flexible enough for us. The new site re-build will allow us to be more nimble in our ability to adjust for site updates moving forward. Specifically, the re-build will assist us in applying new design layouts, which will be focused primarily on a ‘mobile-first’ experience. As per our 3-6 month road-map, new design and layouts will not be deployed until post August, but rest-assured that we are working on them.
  3. Rewards Contract
    To be completed and available on main-net early August. Front-end site updates will accompany this smart-contract deployment, including full instructions on how to claim rewards in the first rewards phase in the week beginning August 7. In order to be eligible for rewards it is important that you withdraw your DICE tokens from all exchanges prior to this date.

Etheroll is thrilled to announce DICE is now available for trading on HitBTC!

We are thrilled to announce that our DICE token is now available on HitBTC. After a slow start (problems with users ability to withdraw DICE from HitBTC), we are pleased to see that the problem on their end is now solved.

Game Back Online + Development Update

We are thrilled to announce our game is now back online after network-wide congestion in the form of a large backlog of failed transactions (due to the recent MYST and BAT ICOs) forced us to pause the game. Happy days!

Let’s talk about gas prices.

There have been some interesting developments within the Ethereum community over the past 24 hours in regards to handling the recent spike in gas prices. The current plan is a concerted effort to recommend miners reduce the base gas price to ~1/4 the current rate. We will also combine this with our own optimizations in order to reduce our gas costs even further. You can read more about the proposed solutions below.

The problem:
Gas prices have risen ~x5 since we launched. The median price for a transfer is now ~10c, compared to when we launched the median price was ~2c http://ethgasstation.info/. Homestead does not have a gas market and the majority of miners are not reducing the base gas price, which has risen in-line with the recent rise in ether.

Proposed solutions:
1) The plan is to reduce the base gas price to ~1/4 of the current rate. This will not happen overnight, but it is definitely a step in the right direction.

2) We have solid plans in place to reduce our gas costs significantly. We will be working with our oracle in order to update our smart-contract to receive unused gas back as a refund from the oracle. This update has always been an important part of our development road-map.

3) Metropolis will deliver a gas market – gas prices should become more competitive.

4) General contract optimization. We intend to take a closer look at ways in which we can optimize our contract to further save on gas costs.

Development Update

We are working on getting the game and our systems back up and running ASAP. We too are currently experiencing issues with Ethereum node syncs, but once these issues have been sorted we will be back up and running. We apologize for the delays. We know you are all eager to see us back online, we are too. Massive record spikes in transactions recently across the network are hampering our ability to get back up and running as quickly and smoothly as we would like to https://etherscan.io/chart/tx. There is currently a 2 hour backlog of transactions due to the BAT ICO. 24 seconds of token sale, followed by a 3+ hour backlog of failed transactions. We will keep you updated.

Game temporarily paused – Ethereum network under heavy load due to MYST token sale.

There were 2600txs queued up on the ethereum network. We are working to resolve the game back to normal status once the network has cleared. For now, the game is paused until the txs queue is cleared. Any unprocessed games will be processed ASAP. Thank you for your patience.

*UPDATE: Network wide transaction backlog has been cleared. We await our oracle to come back online. We will keep you updated accordingly. We apologize for the recent delays.

Etheroll is back online

Thank you for your patience. A couple of items;

  • For now we only fully support Mist browser. Do not use Metamask + Chrome. It is important that you follow the instructions on our ‘How to Play’ tab.
  • Considering the recent rise in ether we have reduced the minimum bet to 0.1 ether.
  • If you are still seeing ‘offline – maintenance’ when you load the page, right click the page loaded in Mist and select inspect element > Network > check the box ‘disable cache’, then right click the page again and select ‘Reload’. Mist is very aggressive with caching, but this should solve any caching issues you may be experiencing.
  • The bankroll has been loaded with the funds from the discontinued contract and we start from where we previously left off.
